Description coliving group
The living group of De Grote Broek, a historic legalised squat in the city centre, is looking for a new resident. The building is a space for leftist activism. You can read about us here: https://grotebroek.nl/
The woongroep of the Grote Broek is located on top of De Klinker and De Onderbroek. These three collectives, plus others which use the space, cooperate to take care of the entire building.
The living group has monthly meetings with either side of the house and for the whole building. We cook vegan/vegetarian dinners for each other on both sides every week and occasionally have shared meals with the whole house. Besides that we also have movie nights and sometimes end up studying, working or going to protests and parties together.
Some of us also choose to volunteer in de Klinker, de Onderbroek and other collectives downstairs.
At the moment we are focused are strengthening the infrastructure (both physical and metaphorical) and coming up with ways to raise funds for the acquisition of the building.
It is possible to register here.
Current composition
We are a living group of 15 people (including you) separated into two sides of the building. We're a diverse household with people of different backgrounds and identities who are linked by our interest in community building and intersectional activism.
The room that is available for you is located in the back side of the house, also known as the Cat Side (we also have a Dog Side but it’s currently fully occupied and has two adorable small dogs). The Cat Side has a sweet black cat on the first floor. If you have a kitty — you are very-very welcome to move in together!
Some of us smoke, some don't. We can smoke on the terrace or you can also do it in your room (it's your room, do what you want). But we don't do it in other rooms.
Ideal resident
In order to maintain the age ratio in the house, for this round we will only consider candidates aged 25 years and up. We prioritise people from marginalised identities, particularly those not from the Global North. It is imperative that you are fully capable of living by yourself (i.e. you know how to take care of a living space, are consistent with cleaning and other house tasks) but just prefer to share your life with a community.
Living in De Broek is a commitment, and we are looking for someone who a) can live here for a long time and b) is willing to engage with the community in their own way. We welcome both practical skills (plumbing! electrical! cooking!) as well as emotional/intellectual (conflict resolution! care! bureaucracy!). It is also great if you naturally take a caring/healing role in communities.
If you think you'd be a good fit, send an email to broek-bewoners@proton.me.
Please introduce yourself and explain why and how you would like to live in such a community. We'd like it if you described your politics and how you approach community care. It’s a bonus if you are able to reflect on your own areas of growth (because we count on each other to be able to communicate struggles and issues, otherwise living together might be challenging).
