Ideal space
We'd be happy to cohabit one large room (ideally 20+ m2), or, if two rooms are coming free simultaneously in one woongroep, we'd happily take both.
Ideal group
We would love to live with people working in the arts/cultural sector, but this is not essential. We're most at home in diverse, queer-friendly, left-leaning/progressive communities. Cleanliness and good communication are musts.
We love a group that can come together often and feel like a family, whilst also respecting each other's personal space!
Describe yourself
We are Jethro and Isobel, a very friendly couple looking for a new home.
Jethro is 33. He grew up on a small farm in a hippy rural corner of England playing guitar and climbing trees. After music school in London and a couple of years in Berlin he landed in Amsterdam, where he’s been happily living for the last 5 years. He works as a composer, sound designer and performer in theatre and dance, and has a wonderfully chaotic schedule that somehow seems to contain both a lot of work and a lot of time off.
Jethro loves cooking (currently trying to understand spice tempering), reading (recent loves: Miranda July’s All Fours, Jen Beagin’s Big Swiss), and dancing (this month he’s trying to pluck up the courage to go to a Gaga class). He spends his spare time mostly learning how to make silver jewellery and slowly working on a collection of genderqueer essays. Hij spreekt ook Nederlands!
Isobel is 36 and grew up in New Zealand, which means she has a uniquely kiwi sense of humour and a funny accent. She is a theatremaker and director, (fun fact - she went to clown school), to which she brings a calm, serious wildness, and a rigorous balance of clown and political intellect. She loves being outside - hiking; camping; caving; understanding and contributing to biodiversity projects. In 2023 she spent a week with a team of volunteers planting 20,000 trees on a subantarctic island.
We’ve been living in an artists’ woongroep in Amsterdam West, which is sadly being terminated in October. We really value the sharing of resources, the social contact, the vibrancy, the mutual care and responsibility that comes with living in self-organised structures, and the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships in and through the domestic sphere. It’s been so gorgeous to share this place with many brilliant, inspiring and lovely people; we’ve made a lot of great friends and honed our communal living and community building skills, which we’re excited to apply to a new home.
Other fun facts about us are:
1: We invented a killer card game (we can teach you!) 2: We know literally all the caving disaster stories on the internet (got kind of obsessed after stumbling into a very long hole in the ground in New Zealand this Spring). 3: Last year we spent four days canoeing down the first river in the world to be granted legal personhood.
