Ideal location
I'd love to live in Amsterdam itself, ideally within the city rather than outside it. Being able to cycle to the Academy for Theatre and Dance and feel part of everyday life in the city is important to me. I'm open to different neighbourhoods and don't have a favourite one yet, but I'd love to live somewhere lively, welcoming and well connected.
Ideal space
A bright and reasonably spacious room where I can truly feel at home would be ideal. I know space is a luxury in Amsterdam, so I'm realistic and flexible, but having enough room for my books, furniture and a few beloved houseplants would make a big difference. A shared living room or kitchen is just as important to me, because I love homes where people naturally spend time together. Since I'll often be at university until the evening, I'd also love a place where it's normal to cook dinner when I get home. A balcony or some outdoor space would be a lovely bonus.

I'm very open minded about who I live with. What matters most to me isn't age or profession, but kindness, curiosity, generosity and respect. I enjoy homes where people have different backgrounds, interests and ways of looking at the world. I'd love to live somewhere that feels welcoming and where people naturally spend time together when it feels right, while also respecting each other's privacy and independence.

Hi everyone! Mijn Nederlands is nog niet goed genoeg om dit in het Nederlands te schrijven. Daarom is mijn bericht in het Engels. Ik ben Nederlands aan het leren en hoop jullie snel te ontmoeten! I'm Cyril, a 32 year old actor and theatre director from Switzerland. At the end of August I'll be moving to Amsterdam to start the Theatre Directing programme at the Academy for Theatre and Dance. I'm looking for a room from the end of August onwards, but I'm also happy to wait a little longer for the right home if the timing is a good fit. Since I'll be staying for at least four years, I'm not just looking for a room. I'm hoping to find people to build a home with, not just a place to live. I've lived in shared houses for the past eleven years, and they've shaped what "home" means to me. I'm not looking for a house where everyone politely disappears behind their own door. I'd love to live with people who genuinely enjoy sharing everyday life: cooking together, spending hours talking around the kitchen table, sitting on the balcony with a drink until it gets dark, going to a flea market on a Sunday, watching a film together, or spontaneously deciding to explore somewhere new. At the same time, I really value everyone's independence and personal space. The nicest shared houses, I think, are the ones where these moments happen naturally, never because they're expected. Outside of work, I love cooking, practising yoga, and doing endurance sports: I'm into triathlon and I'm looking forward to starting Lindy Hop and kickboxing once I'm in Amsterdam. I also have a small collection of houseplants that I care for with probably a little too much enthusiasm. Moving to Amsterdam feels a bit surreal because it's something I've wanted for years. I've always been drawn to the city, and getting accepted into the directing programme feels like the perfect reason to finally make the move. I'm also excited to learn Dutch and become part of the local community over the next few years.A friend of mine found his home through Woongroep and spoke so warmly about the people he met here that I knew I had to give it a try too.
