Describe yourself
Hello! I'm Axel and looking for a new home from ASAP/beginning/end October!
I work as freelance sound engineer and theater technician, often involved with exciting places such as De Sering, Mezrab, OT301, OCCII as well as English-speaking community theater (light design for Happily Ever After's Spring Awakening, and sound engineering for Witches of Eastwick next month) as well as performances for the Amsterdam Fringe Festival. I am now wanting to focus more on sound engineering and looking for bands to be their sound person! Mixing concerts and concert recordings is what fires me up the most right now!
Besides this I am picking up drums again (practicing in rehearsal rooms only, rest assured!), and aiming to prepare for a 45-minute set with to-be-found bandmates end of December. Always looking for people to jam with or make music with! Big influences from Pond, Animal Collective, Weyes Blood, Foxygen, ELO, Air, The Garden, Broadcast, BoC, of Montreal. As well as looking for drum teachers & coaches of various kinds!
Those are my two main focusses for the next month. Besides this I very much enjoy reading non-fiction books -- I used to run a monthly non-fiction book club last year where we would discuss books such as How to Know a Person, The Power of Moments, The Creative Act, Flow, Hero With a Thousand Faces and many more. In an effort to federate English-speaking book clubs across the Netherlands and making them easier to find, I started running https://bookclubcalendar.com as a hobby. I really enjoy discussing books and ideas and especially connecting them to people's personal experiences. I also run a blog, now mostly for summarizing ideas of books I've read: https://xaxel.cc
I worked a variety of jobs in the past and have an affinity for foreign languages -- especially German and Russian (lived in Berlin for five years).
I am vegan, non-smoking, and trying to offset my technical equipment ecological footprint with buying sustainable/biodegradable household products (I'm failing).
I am looking to surround myself with creative and/or fun and/or brainy people and so am open to different settings. I'm happy to have some good laughs in the kitchen, check in with our life goals and helping each other out with that, or just chewing the fat about some interesting ideas. I do value an overall quiet home but don't mind some activity every now and then.
I am curious to meet you!
